Business energy prices: 12% up in October, another 20% in January — what to do now
Business energy prices rise 12% this October and a further 20% in January. If your contract ends in the next six months, now is the time to check your bill and lock in a price.
What's happening to business energy prices
Business gas and electricity prices are rising 12% this October, with a further 20% increase expected in January. Taken together, a business paying £1,000 a month today could be paying around £1,340 a month by the new year.
Who is most at risk
- Businesses whose fixed contract ends in the next six months
- Businesses on out-of-contract or deemed rates, which are usually the most expensive
- New businesses moving into premises without a contract in place
The six-month rule
Suppliers let you secure a new price up to six months before your current contract ends. Checking early gives you the widest choice of offers from suppliers across the market, before the January rise is priced in.
